Advanced Patent Searching: Using the Public Version of Patent Examiners' Search Tools
Event box
As a Patent and Trademark Resource Center, we have access to databases commonly referred to as PubEAST and PubWEST that is located on one computer in the library and may be accessed by appointment so that a PTRC representative can help the user navigate these databases. In this workshop, the presenter will discuss the pros/cons of using these databases and give a demonstration of how to use these databases.
PubEAST is the "public" version of the patent Examiner's Automated Search Tool. It allows users to access granted patents and published patent applications at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), including optical character recognition, the European Patent Office (EPO) patent abstracts, and the Foreign Patent Retrieval System (FPRS) databases. PubEAST provides a form-based search for novice users and for expert users and other features for expert users.
PubWEST is the "public" version of the Web-based Examiner's Search Tool. WEST provides the same information as EAST, but with additional advanced search functions for the expert user.
