What does a comic book writer do? What is it like writing comic book scripts, graphic novels, and nonfiction books for a living? And what's it like writing jokes for comedy shows on TV? In this lecture, acclaimed author and comic book scribe Arie Kaplan (MAD Magazine, The New Kid From Planet Glorf, Speed Racer: Chronicles of the Racer) will talk about his career in the comics industry, and his work as a screenwriter for television, videogames, and transmedia. He'll also speak about his creative process, the steps that he goes through when creating a comic book script, and how that compares to his process when writing scripts for TV shows or videogames. Finally, Arie will share stories from his time on the road as a visiting author and guest speaker, including a journey he took to explore his roots in Krakow, Poland, shortly after the publication of his award-winning nonfiction book From Krakow to Krypton: Jews and Comic Books.
